Skocdopole Construction Ltd. utilizes a unique track type plough system for pipeline and utility installations.

The Skocdopole Plough Train consists of one plough cat that is pulled by one or two winch cats. (See photos below) Most pipe and cable materials are shipped to job site location on large round reels, which are 8 to 12 feet in diameter.

The Skocdopole Plough Train method is unique in that the pipe reel mounts onto a reel holder which is located behind and above the hydraulic ripper/pipe chute. The pipe comes off the reel in its pre-curved state and is loaded into the plough/pipe chute and placed into the ground without over stressing, stretching or reverse bending the coiled pipe.

Many of our competitors reverse or "S" bend the pipe into the pipe chute which can cause pipe stress and/or stretching of thin wall coiled pipe.

Skocdopole's plough train low stress method becomes a real advantage when the temperature drops below zero as the pipe will remain curled up tight on the reels in the cold weather (we can plough in pipe at temperatures up to 30 below Celsius without stress or damage to the pipe). When pipe reels are changed, the pipe ends are fused together and the plough train continues down the right of way without pulling out of the ground.

Other advantages to the Skocdopole Plough Train system are:
  • Keeps Right of Way (ROW) traffic to a minimum as no pre stringing is required
  • Reduced ground disturbance and soil mixing compared to trenching or ditching methods
  • No open ditch or trench for personnel, equipment and animals to deal with
  • Pipe and cable on reels reduces the possibility of damage on ROW vs. conventional ROW pipe and cable stringing methods
  • Reduced material handling means less waste of material
  • Plough projects are completed in a shorter time frame vs. trenching or ditching methods
  • Utilizing a Soil Mulcher, or Frost Cutter in winter conditions to remove frozen topsoil prior to ploughing allows for less soil mixing and reduces spring clean up as topsoil in most cases can be replaced in winter. Ditching methods in most cases require leaving topsoil off until sub soil is put in place after spring thawing.
  • Clear sight lines on ROW for operators, employees and other ROW equipment
  • Smaller crew sizes are required for ploughing operations
  • Reduce time required for right of way clean up after installation
  • Overall savings up to 40% over steel applications
Larger diameter HDPE pipe (up to ten inch) and composite pipe that comes in straight lengths can also be ploughed in or trenched after fusion of pipe string is completed. A cost savings can still be realized over traditional steel pipe and ditching methods by using HDPE pipe systems.

Skocdopole Construction Ltd. also utilizes rubber tired pipe ploughs and chain trenchers for short runs or sensitive ground areas. Ideally suited for smaller diameter pipe and cable applications rather than our track type plough system with an overall cost savings to the customer over ditching methods.
